CCIE is intended to connect current UBC chemistry graduate students and postdocs with the invited panelists, who are all former graduate students in Chemistry applying their degrees in diverse fields outside of academia. It’s a great opportunity for graduate students to obtain insider information on career trajectories!

Summer is the most productive yet stressful season for research.
CGSS has planned out a couple of stressbusters to help release the stress. Trivia Night is where you can make use of your random and interesting knowledge to win a prize. Brew-off is a competition where you can try out different drinks brewed by your colleagues and vote for the best beer and best mead. You can also enjoy the snack chat and karaoke！

Students are encouraged to attend in costume—whether it's in a creepy style or a chemist theme. The Pumpkin Carving Contest is a perfect chance to showcase your creativity with carving skills.
Holiday Film Festival

The Holiday Film Festival is always a source of laughter.
Before the year ends, we gather to watch hilarious skits and short films created by students with a talent for comedy and directing. These films humorously capture the dramas of lab work, classes, and exams—stories we can all relate to and enjoy.

Sock War

Sock war is a department-wide game of tag where a clean sock is the “weapon.” It's a thrilling game where strategy and teamwork are essential. However, alliances often lead to unexpected betrayals. With excitement around every corner, it’s anyone’s guess who will emerge as the ultimate survivor.

The International Potluck is an event co-hosted by the CGSS and CDI club. People come to share and enjoy dishes from diverse cultural backgrounds, each lovingly prepared by our fellow students. It's a delicious way to celebrate the united community and discover new flavors.

Charity Coffee Time
An alternative to the weekly coffee times hosted by various research groups, CGSS occasionally organizes charity coffee times where students are encouraged to contribute to a designated charitable organization.

Sports Events
The CGSS aims to inspire chemistry students with a season full of fun, fitness, and teamwork. We organize a variety of exciting sports events to keep students active and engaged, including indoor climbing, Bike Week, and team participation in "Storm the Wall."
CGSS Subsidized Outing
In addition to our featured annual events, CGSS provides students with subsidized tickets for a range of off-campus activities, including pottery workshop, spin class, visits to PNE & Playland, baseball games, theater performances,
and more.
